CNC controlled punching in sheet metal

By means of a CNC controlled punching machine up to 25 tonnes, with a punch head equipped with several tools, sheet metal can be cut, remoulded, tapped, bent and so on.

CNC controlled punching in sheet metal is one of the most flexible processes to the extent of complex geometric figures that have to be cut out of the sheet surface. It is the most economical and fastest way for large series, because less energy is used during punching, and no expensive gasses are needed during production. This compensates the somewhat longer machine set up time which is needed for CNC controlled punching of sheet metal.

CNC controlled punching is possible for sheet metal up to a gauge of 4 mm.

Amongst others, the cost price of punching in sheet metal consists of a cutter that (in collaboration with the matrix) at each stroke pushes a standard form (round holes, square holes…) – or in the case of sheet metal – a complex form through the material.

Also the machine set up time is a factor in the total cost price of CNC controlled punching, but this is well compensated by the phenomenal pace in which the sheet metal is punched.

That is why, CNC controlled punching of sheet metal is mainly suitable for larger series.

Advantages of CNC punching:

  • Large series
  • For sheet metal up to 4 mm
  • For stainless steel up to 1.5 mm
  • For aluminium up to 8 mm
